How to Eat Healthy while on Vacation

A vacation is a time to relax, kick back, and enjoy yourself. And sure, perhaps loosen up on some of your stricter eating habits at the same time. But trying to stay healthy while on vacation can be hard, even stressful, and worrying about what and how you are eating can put a negative spin on even the best trip.

While you should absolutely allow yourself to take it easy and relax while on vacation, it is perfectly possible to eat healthy at the same time! If you want to stick to a healthy eating plan as much as possible even while jetting off to exotic locales or cruising from LA, here are a few tips to keep you on the right track.

Resist the urge to splurge

It is easy to go over the top on vacation. There are always new things to try, new flavors to explore, and you’ll likely be eating out most of the time. There’s always room for dessert! But the key to eating healthy on vacation is trying to avoid going too far. You can, and should, try new things, but don’t go overboard. Particularly as you’ll be eating out again tomorrow! Consider ordering half portions, sharing entrees, or even taking leftovers back to your Airbnb for a next-day snack.

But allow yourself a treat

That said, you shouldn’t deny yourself a few pleasures! Building in treats to your vacation eating plan is a great way to avoid temptation when it comes along, and knowing you’ve got a few delicious guilty pleasures coming up later can help keep you on track for the rest of the time.

Walk everywhere

Staying healthy while on the road isn’t just about eating. Getting enough exercise is a great way to keep yourself in shape on vacation, and walking is the perfect solution! Walking around a destination is, as it happens, the best way to get to know a new place, and one of the most enjoyable things to do on a trip anyway, so it’s a great double-whammy.

Drink water

We often snack on vacation. A lot. But much of the time when we feel hungry, we are actually thirsty! Drinking enough water will keep those hunger pangs at bay, and keep you hydrated at the same time!

Indulge in fruit

One of the joys of a far-flung vacation trip is the abundance of delicious, fresh fruit. So if you are going to overindulge, make your splurge all about pineapples, melons, papayas, and kiwis! Just as tasty, and twice as healthy!
