Getting Away from it all: Why Travelling is Good for the Soul

After more than a year of lockdowns, we’re all ready for a change of scene. Though travelling abroad is still restricted, it’ll soon be back on the agenda. And let’s not dismiss the humble staycation. There are countless beautiful villages, towns across the UK and only a train ride away, ready for you to discover.

There are so many benefits to packing your bags and heading somewhere new. While it can seem expensive and take lots of planning, it is always worth it. And here are just a few reasons why.

A Fresh Perspective

When we’re at home, we can forget to take time for ourselves. Our responsibilities take over and we get caught in our daily routine of work/cooking/looking after the kids/doing chores.

A trip away is a fantastic opportunity to refresh your mind and get a new perspective on things. After some time in a new place with room to reflect and renourish, you’ll return home calmer, happier and more productive.

Push Your Boundaries

It’s easy to get stuck in the daily grind of life, doing the same things day in day out – because it’s comfortable. But take on a trip to a new place and you’ll find yourself doing new things and meeting new people. You’ll push yourself out of your comfort zone, building strength of character – which is guaranteed to bring satisfaction and happiness in a way you may not expect.

Health

A trip away is guaranteed to get your brain ticking and your body moving. Planning, packing, and organising will exercise your mind, while exploring will inevitably get you out and about on foot, so your fitness levels are bound to improve. Monitor your step count and you may be surprised by how much ground you cover.

You’ll also likely go swimming and take on activities like bike riding and hiking, all of which will get your blood pumping.

A Cultural Education

Travelling, whether near or far, will broaden your horizons and open you up to new cultures and ways of life. It’s so important to be aware of how other people live, and visiting different cultures will teach you new things and open you up to new experiences – from local traditions to new cuisines.

Meet New People

At home, we get into the habit of seeing the same people day in, day out. But go exploring and you’ll meet individuals from different cultures and backgrounds, who will teach you something new and could even become friends for life.

Make Memories

We have come to value experiences more than material things and travelling will provide you with memories that will last a lifetime. You’ll leave with a full heart and head home with a camera roll full of incredible moments that will always make you smile.
