Nasi Ulam Nyonya (Nyonya Herbs Rice) Recipe for House Warming Gathering

Nasi Ulam Nyonya by Miss Sunshine

Have you try Nasi Ulam Nyonya? Actually cooking this dish is not difficult but the preparation takes a lot of time and patience. Getting all the herbs and ingredient, after that slicing and chopping them. Nasi means rice in Malay while ulam means the assortment of herbs served during meal. Nasi ulam nyonya is the herbs are sliced or chopped and mixed with rice and other ingredients.

Busy preparing and cutting the herbs still can smile
After getting all the herbs / ulam and ingredients that I need from Chow Kit Wet Market I am ready to cook. The rice I use Bernas Jasmin Royal Siam fragrant rice. The cooked rice is fluffy, soft and fragrant, I do not need to use pandan. Plus the rice maintain its grain shape not broken or stick together. Well, I was at my bestie Jenny's house cooking and prepare a simple dinner for her house warming gathering on Friday night. It was just a few of us; Jenny, Raj, Alice and me.

Nasi Ulam Nyonya

I have arranged nicely, these are the herbs and ingredients that require for Nasi Ulam Nyonya. You

The aroma of the different herbs, paired with rice and dry-toasted shredded coconut or kerisik, dried shrimp and fish floss (serunding ikan) arouse my appetite. It is delicious, aromatic, healthy and appetizing. If you are vegetarian then do not add the dried shrimp, fish floss and belacan powder. I like the combination of spicy, tangy and aromatic flavor.

Add all the chopped and sliced ingredients to the cooked rice

Toss evenly plus some salt, sugar and black pepper
