If you have no idea where to start, I highly suggest educating yourself on what skincare ingredients or cosmetic ingredients do you prefer for your skin. Worry not because you will be learning the key ingredients to look for in a skincare product. All five listed below are good for your skin, and I consider them the basics of every skincare ingredient.

1. Alpha and Beta-Hydroxy Acids (AHA/BHA)

Alpha-hydroxy acids, commonly known as AHA, is a water-soluble ingredient made out of sugar cane and other fruity acids. Since it is water-soluble, it penetrates only to the surface of the skin. AHA works as the janitor for clearing up dead skin cells found in the skin’s outer layer. Because AHAs contain properties that naturally boost the skin’s moisturizing abilities, they are recommended for normal to dry skin types and those with sun-damaged skin.

Beta-hydroxy acids, commonly known as BHA, is an oil-soluble ingredient. Because of that, BHAs penetrated deeper into the skin, targeting the pores. They are highly recommended to use if you want to eliminate clogged pores, blackheads, and whiteheads. BHAs remove excess sebum, dirt, dead skin cells, and bacteria that are found deep into your pores but still keeping your skin hydrated. BHAs are highly suggested for oily and acne-prone skin.

2. Niacinamide

Niacinimide is considered as the miracle ingredient of skincare. It helps in treating hyperpigmentation and dark spots, giving you that even skin complexion. If you want to minimize the appearance of your pores, this ingredient got your back. It regulates your skin’s sebum production, leaving your skin equally hydrated and moisturized without getting too oily. It also has properties that are highly recommended to all skin types.

3. Vitamin C

If you want to get that glowy, plump, youthful, clear skin, Vitamin C is your go-to ingredient. It helps you get that even skin tone. Plus, it diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Most of all, it is a great source of antioxidants that help your skin fight against free radicals and UV damage.

4. SPF with zinc

Sunscreens are your bestfriends against sun damage. Too much sun exposure will cause skin aging, dark spots, redness, and skin cancer. The UVA and UVB rays are the main culprits of skin cancer that’s why dermatologists and beauty professionals always recommend you to apply skincare daily. Plus, if you get an SPF with zinc, it helps treat acne, irritations, and bacterial infections. Everybody needs an SPF regardless of your skin type.

5. Glycerin

Another wonder ingredient of skincare. It is commonly found in moisturizers because it is a natural humectant. This means that it conditions your skin to become smoother, softer, and suppler by maintaining a moisture barrier in your skin. With glycerin present, you’re assured that your skin will have enough hydration throughout the day. It also helps in improving your skin texture, protecting from external aggressors, and wound healing. An ideal ingredient perfect for everyone.
