Planning a Girls’ Night Out? Read This First!

A girls’ night out is like the planets aligning: It doesn’t happen very often, and when it does, it’s cause for an all-out celebration. It’s also like the planets aligning in that your friends’ schedules hardly ever match up – someone is always out of town, or busy on the weekend, or overworked or short on sleep. So it’s a small miracle when everyone can pick a night to hit the town.

The rarity of a great girls’ night out also means that you have to go out of your way to make it special, to make it a fun night out that isn't boring or ordinary. And the best way to do that is to keep three simple principles in mind: 1) start with an unconventional activity, 2) don’t skimp on the drinks and food, and 3) cap the night off with music and dancing. Follow those three steps and you’ll be golden. Let’s take a closer look!

Start With an Unconventional Activity

Every girls’ night out needs its icebreaker, its defining, Instagrammable moment that’s unlike anything else. You could just go to a restaurant or a club, but that would be too “cookie cutter” to be memorable. You need an unconventional activity to kick things off.

Recently, a lot of groups have been really getting into axe throwing (a sport that is pretty much exactly how it sounds) because it’s fun and exhilarating. And holding an axe makes for an amazing photo.

Follow That With Amazing Food and Drinks

Don’t skimp on the food and drinks. If you’re going to get the girls together for the first night in ages, you have to treat yourself a little, even if it means spending a bit of money. It doesn’t have to be crazy expensive, just steer clear of anything close to fast food. Make a reservation at a good restaurant, and don’t hold back when ordering – especially when ordering drinks.

Small plates places (like tapas, izakayas etc.) are really popular with crowds nowadays, because you can sample a number of different shareable dishes. Just make sure everyone is cool with splitting the bill evenly!

Dance the Night Away

There is no better place to end a girls’ night out than the dance floor. Going dancing is a time-honored tradition among women, a time for letting loose, forgetting worries and letting the rhythm take over. Not only is it insanely fun, but it’s also a fast, efficient way of burning off any calories accumulated over dinner, which is a bonus.

Not a huge fan of dancing in a sweaty crowd? Alternatively, you can book a private karaoke room with your friends, and sing and dance the night away without worrying about guys trying to hit on you.

There you have it: the perfect girls’ night out, engineered for maximum enjoyment. It doesn’t have to be fancy or super-expensive to be memorable – it just needs a group of amazing girlfriends, and the above three elements.
