Alam Flora Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 Towards Sustainable Cities

Want to be an eco-warrior… but how? Let’s join me! Recently I participated in Alam Flora Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 at Bukit Bintang. I’m honoured to be part of this hunt and be a Cyber Eco-Warrior. Sustainability should be part of our lifestyle, every little thing we do daily, and the changes we adapt to save our environment, will create a big impact. Let’s get started!

Alam Flora Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 Towards Sustainable Cities  

The Alam Flora Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 was on 23rd September 2023 and started around 730am. We gathered at Elephant Republic at Jalan Rembia, Bukit Bintang, located around Jalan Alor. 

This is my third time joining Alam Flora’s Sustainability Hunt, my first time was Sustainability Hunt 2022 @ Taman Tugu and the second round was in Alam Flora Sustainability Hunt 2023 @ FIKS. 

Every time there are new things to discover and to share with my friends and followers. Sometimes due to our hectic lifestyle we tend to forget, let’s encourage and embrace these good sustainable practices in our daily lifestyle.

Briefing session during Alam Flora Cyber Eco Hunt 2023

The Alam Flora Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 kick started with the briefing about the tasks, safety, timeline, and warm welcome speech by YB Dato’ Haji Mohd Zain Hassan, Chief Executive Officer, Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd.

We flag-off at 8am, yuhooo! All the best to the participants including myself. Love the organizing team members and participants, although it’s a competition but we all work as a team and help each other to complete our tasks. No matter rain or shine, we do our best to create our content and shared it. Seriously, we all deserved a pat, Dato’ Haji Mohd Zain Hassan, Alam Flora CEO also turun padang and joined us throughout the hunt.

Under the commitment, Alam Flora Group Towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Alam Flora has been actively involved in promoting the new sustainable economic concept as to ensure the public will have proper access to sustainable waste management facilities and services. 

This hunt is part of Alam Flora's commitment in promoting responsible waste management practices and cultivating a culture of sustainability towards achieving the government's goal of achieving 40% recycled waste by 2025. 

Here are the 5 tasks or checkpoints for Cyber Eco Hunt 2023. We have to upload 1 IG Stories for each checkpoint challenge. Congrats to all the winners!

To raise awareness about the importance of avoiding and reducing 'flying litter' activities in public areas that can impact the public and the environment:

1. Environmental Protection: The activity of 'flying garbage' can have a negative impact on the environment. Most of the trash that is thrown away, will end up on sidewalks and drains that can cause water pollution.

2. Public Health and Safety: 'Flying garbage' is very dangerous to public health and safety. Shards of glass, sharp objects, and dangerous substances can cause injury to pedestrians, especially children and animals. Responsible waste management helps prevent accidents and health risks.

3. Long-term sustainability: Public education about the effects of flying litter can provide a basis for long-term sustainability of environmental cleanliness.

Educate the community about proper waste management. It is important to emphasize the importance of not throwing garbage into the drains.

1. Drains are designed to facilitate the flow of water and should not be used as a dumping ground. Improper disposal of waste down the drain can cause clogged drains, flooding, and other environmental problems.

2. When food waste is thrown down the drain, it can solidify and block the flow of water, further exacerbating the drainage problem. This can cause flash floods and damage to drainage systems, which impacts community well-being and infrastructure.

3. The challenge of carrying out drain cleaning when there is too much rubbish that does not need to be thrown into the drain. This not only takes up their operational time but also hinders their ability to solve certain problems immediately.

CHECKPOINT 3: WASTE-FREE DRAINS CHALLENGE

During this challenge, Alam Flora staff demonstrated drain cleaning using vaccal and water jetter. 

CHECKPOINT 4: LITTER CLEAN-UP CHALLENGE

Located at the Mural Area @ Lorong Bukit Bintang which used to be a garbage dump. Now it has become a beautiful mural painting area. This challenge is to educate the public about the impact of littering on the environment and encourage responsible waste management. 

Upcycle

For this challenge we used the used paper carton to upcycle to be crafts or frame.
