Whenever my schedule gets super chaotic and I’m rushing between shoots, meetings, and events, there is one place I always rely on for a meal that feels like a warm hug: Madam Kwan’s. We all know that iconic logo—the culinary matriarch herself with her warm smile, signature hat, and large glasses! When I received the invite to join the team in Celebrating Madam Kwan’s Halal Certification & Malaysia Book of Records Milestone, I couldn't wait to clear my afternoon and head over to support a homegrown brand I’ve personally loved for years.

Stepping into the event space, the energy was amazing. For me, as someone who is constantly on the go, finding a comfortable dining spot with guaranteed food quality, pristine hygiene, and consistent flavor is everything. Milestone 1: Official JAKIM Halal Certification Across Restaurants

Hearing the official announcement during the event was such a proud moment: Madam Kwan’s central kitchens and 17 outlets across Peninsular Malaysia are officially JAKIM Halal certified with their newest outlet at AEON Tebrau, Johor expected to complete certification in due course.

For me, this comes down to pure peace of mind and confidence. I’ve always noticed how spotless their outlets are and how much care goes into their food standards, but having official JAKIM Halal certification across their operations takes it to the next level. Whether I'm organizing office makan, big family feast, catching up with friends, or grabbing a quick work lunch, I know everyone can sit down together and enjoy a meal with complete assurance.

The highlight of the event for me was watching 92-year-old Madam Kwan Swee Lian herself take the stage alongside CEO Datin Maureen Ooi and founder Datuk Rudy Foo! Seeing her in person was so heartening.

Anyone who knows me knows that Nasi Bojari is my ultimate order whenever I dine at Madam Kwan’s. Inspired by a royal-style recipe created by Madam Kwan herself, it’s the definition of comfort on a single plate:

The Tri-Coloured Rice: Fluffy, fragrant, and visually so appetizing.

The Deep-Fried Whole Chicken Leg: Crispy skin on the outside, juicy on the inside, cooked to golden perfection.

The Sides: Tangy assam prawns, tender beef rendang that melts in your mouth, and a hard-boiled egg.

It lets me sample all of my favorite local flavors in one satisfying meal. Seeing them hit almost a quarter-million plates sold in just one year made total sense to me—it really is that good.

During her speech, Datin Maureen Ooi shared a sentiment that truly captured the heart of the celebration: "Today's celebration goes beyond two milestones. It reflects the journey Madam Kwan's has shared with Malaysians over nearly three decades. The Malaysia Book of Records recognition is a testament to the enduring love for our signature Nasi Bojari, while our JAKIM Halal certification reinforces the trust our customers place in us every day. Together, these achievements reflect what Madam Kwan's has always stood for, which is a legacy of trust and a taste loved by Malaysians, earned through authenticity, consistency and an uncompromising commitment to quality."
