Held on 20th September 2025 in front of the PETRONAS Twin Towers, this vibrant celebration brought together 15,000 runners across various categories, with an expected 30,000 visitors joining the festivities throughout the day.
This year’s edition is proudly driven by JETOUR Malaysia, the ‘Main Sponsor’ and ‘Official Car Partner’, with full support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC).
Blending health, culture and community, MSMR has become a standout event in Malaysia’s annual calendar, embracing traditional sarong attire, local music, Malaysian cuisine and a strong spirit of togetherness.
In his remarks, Eddy Casmady, President of Malaysia Marathon and Founder of MSMR, said the event has grown beyond its origins as a themed run.
“Although this is the first year we’ve introduced MSMR across three editions, we’re incredibly proud to see it evolve into an international community festival that highlights our culture and heritage, not just a run.”
This year’s MSMR offers three key events:
• EKI JETOUR X BSC Relay Run - a unique sarong relay held on 9 September 2025
• 5KM Speed Run (5K Malaysia Speed) - open to Malaysian citizens only, this race highlights both recreational and elite homegrown talent. Takes place on 20 September 2025
• 5KM Fun Run - open to everyone, including international tourists. Also, on 20 September 2025
He added that MSMR has become a meaningful platform in support of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), positioning the festival as a symbol of Malaysia’s cultural diversity and unity.
A standout element of MSMR is the widespread use of the sarong, a traditional piece of clothing that transcends generations and backgrounds. Runners and families alike donned the sarong with pride, creating a striking sea of colour and cultural pride.
“It’s moving to witness thousands coming together, united by a single cultural element - the sarong, in Malaysia Day 2025 celebration. It’s more than just a traditional garment; it’s a shared identity,” said Eddy.
MSMR was first introduced in February 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, attracting 11,000 participants. This was followed by the Sarawak Edition in Matang, Kuching, which welcomed over 5,500 runners and 20,000 visitors.
With its continued growth, MSMR is fast becoming a key highlight in Malaysia’s tourism and lifestyle scene, a reflection of unity, heritage, and celebration.
