Anxiety is a problem that many people suffer, but most do not know when is the right time to seek help. Well, I suspect that recently I had a mild anxiety problem because at one point of time I'm not able to drive, I can't focus, my heart rate was so fast, my hands are shaking and I feel so suffocated. 6 Types of Anxiety Disorders

Mild anxiety - can be normal and even helpful in certain situations, but you should seek help if this anxiety becomes severe and stops you from leading your life. There are a few different types of anxiety disorder with each having different reasoning and treatments.

Generalized anxiety - Uncontrollable anxiety about things that might go wrong and feelings of anxiety most of the time.

Phobia - A fear that is out of proportion to real dangers. Phobias can be normal, but they are considered an anxiety disorder when it interferes with daily life.

Panic disorder - Those that suffer from panic attacks are considered to have an anxiety disorder. There may be a trigger for these attacks, or they may occur for no particular reason.

Obsessive - compulsive disorder (OCD) - Repeated obsessions or compulsions that make you nervous. The obsession is an idea that is fixated on and the compulsion is an action to cancel out the obsession.

Post-traumatic stress disorder - PTSD is anxiety following a traumatic event and can include recurring flashbacks, dreams and thoughts about the event.

Seeking Help

Those that suffer from one of these disorders should know that effective treatment is available and it is important to seek out professional help. If your anxiety is interfering with daily life, take the first step by making an appointment to see your GP. They will try to determine the root of your anxiety so that an effective treatment plan can be developed.

Treatments

Usually, treatments will be a combination of methods and it is often over a lengthy period. Lifestyle changes are one aspect, but talking therapies are crucial in helping to overcome anxiety. In particular, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is effective in helping to change how you think.
