Generali Malaysia Launches ‘Gen Sinar’ to Protect Education for Underserved Families

Every parent shares a common dream: to see their children excel, get a good education, and build a brighter future. However, for many underserved households in Malaysia—especially those relying on a single breadwinner—the daily hustle to meet essential needs often leaves little room for long-term financial planning.

Across the nation, a significant protection gap persists. Many families remain under-protected, leaving them highly vulnerable to sudden financial shocks. If an unforeseen tragedy hits the main breadwinner, the immediate impact can disrupt a child’s education and perpetuate a cycle of hardship.

Recognizing this critical challenge, Generali Malaysia, in partnership with Amanah Raya Berhad (“AmanahRaya”), Malaysia’s Only Public Trustee, has officially launched Gen Sinar.

What is Gen Sinar?

Launched at a community event at Kompleks Komuniti Muhibbah, Gen Sinar is an affordable personal accident insurance plan specifically designed to empower underserved families. The event was well-supported by key stakeholders, including representatives from AmanahRaya, the Embassy of Italy in Malaysia, PIAM, UNDP partners, non-governmental organisations, community leaders, members of the media, and local residents.

Fabrice Benard, CEO of Generali Insurance Malaysia Berhad, shares how Gen Sinar aims to make protection more accessible to underserved families while helping children continue their education

At its core, Gen Sinar is built to ensure one crucial thing: the continuity of a child's education in the event of the accidental death or permanent disability of the family breadwinner.

“Gen Sinar is more than just an insurance plan, it is a purpose-driven social protection initiative built on a non-profit model. We share the aspiration of the community and believe that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. By making protection accessible to underserved families, we aim to ensure that children can continue their education even in the most difficult circumstances.” — Fabrice Benard, Chief Executive Officer of Generali Insurance Malaysia Berhad.

Meaningful Protection That’s Truly Affordable

Aligned with The Human Safety Net (THSN)—Generali’s global movement dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities—Gen Sinar is intentionally priced to be practical and accessible.

Here is a breakdown of how the plan works:

  • Affordable Premium: Just RM91.28 for the first year and RM59.40 for subsequent years. This is inclusive of stamp duty (absolute assignment and trust deed) and 8% service tax.

  • Immediate Financial Relief: In the event of the breadwinner's accidental death or permanent disability, the plan provides an immediate lump sum payment of RM20,000 to ease the family's financial strain.

  • Long-Term Education Support: To secure the children's schooling, the plan offers a monthly education allowance of RM250 per child until they reach the age of 18, with total support capping at up to RM100,000.

  • Holistic Wellbeing: Recognizing that health is wealth, families will also receive a complimentary telemedicine consultation benefit. This includes up to two sessions per year (valued at up to RM60 per session), giving families easy phone or video access to qualified healthcare professionals for both physical and mental well-being.

A Partnership Built on Trust and Transparency

To guarantee that the funds serve their exact purpose, all education benefits are administered by AmanahRaya as the Trustee. This close collaboration ensures that the money is securely safeguarded, transparently managed, and held in trust solely for the children’s future.

“This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that underserved families are not left behind when it comes to financial protection and access to educational support for their children. As Malaysia’s Only Public Trustee, AmanahRaya carries a broader responsibility not only in safeguarding the interests of beneficiaries, but also in contributing positively towards the well-being of the communities we serve. Through Gen Sinar, we hope to provide greater peace of mind to families, while ensuring that the support intended for children’s education is properly safeguarded and managed for their future benefit.” — Jack Yap Ngee Heong, Acting Group Managing Director and Group Chief Business & Operating Officer of Amanah Raya Berhad.

Gen Sinar is a big step forward in bridging the protection gap in Malaysia, proving that financial security and peace of mind should be accessible to everyone.
