Tree Planting by UNIQLO Malaysia at Taman Tugu

Hey! recently I was at the Tree Planting Event by UNIQLO Malaysia at Taman Tugu, Kuala Lumpur. Well, UNIQLO further strengthens its commitment towards the environment and sustainability efforts with a donation of RM300,000 to support Taman Tugu’s conservation projects. The amount contributed is a part of the proceeds collected from paper shopping bag charges imposed by UNIQLO on customers.

In recognition of the contribution, Taman Tugu has offered UNIQLO two corporate plotsto adopt for tree planting. The corporate plot is a newly launched initiative by Taman Tugu, and UNIQLO is the first corporate partner to partake in this initiative.

Measuring nine square metres (3m x 3m) each, the corporate plots allow UNIQLO to plant at least five indigenous trees per plot that are crucial to the local nature’s ecosystem.

The initiative with Taman Tugu also sees the donation channeled into the park’s Plant Giveaway and Plant & Hunt programmes. The year-long Plant & Hunt programme is designed for children to learn about plants' lifecycles and seed dispersion through a series of educational activities.

Since 2020, UNIQLO started using environmentally friendly shopping bags, made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is harvested in a responsible manner. The implementation of RM0.30 charges for paper bag in UNIQLO’s stores is in line with the retailer’s sustainability measures to reduce the number of single-use materials used in its operations.

  1. I used to work for Uniqlo. This is the first time I heard that Uniqlo is doing an environment related campaign. Good for them.
