Sharing Light, Sharing Love at DMCGG’s Moon of Compassion 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival

It was a wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort for the Moon of Compassion 2026, where about 200 people from diverse cultural and community backgrounds gathered for an event that brought together traditional cultural celebrations, community connections, and a shared spirit of giving.

Held under the theme “Sharing Light, Sharing Love,” the event was organized by Persatuan Penganut Dei Mou Ciu Gwong Gung (DMCGG), an organization guided by core values of compassion and service. The initiative aimed to take the traditional spirit of Mid-Autumn beyond the family table, creating an inclusive space where shared values of gratitude, generosity, and unity could be celebrated by all.

The evening was packed with vibrant cultural performances and engaging activities for families and guests of all ages. Families captured memories at the Giant Moon photo booth, interacted with animals at the mini petting zoo, and got creative with lantern colouring.

We were also treated to a captivating “The Story Behind the Moon” stage performance told through dynamic sand art, alongside cultural stage acts including an elegant Han Dynasty Dance and a dramatic Face-Changing (Bian Lian) performance.

To top off the festivities, everyone enjoyed a traditional Chinese dinner accompanied by interactive riddle-solving games. Being part of such a lively yet warm atmosphere made me appreciate how a shared celebration can bring people together in such a meaningful way.

Fostering Unity in Diversity

The event demonstrated how cultural traditions can act as a bridge between communities, fostering greater understanding and connection across diverse backgrounds. Damien Foo, Chairman of DMCGG, highlighted the power of inclusion: “We have always firmly believed that the concept of ‘unity in diversity’ is our biggest strength as a multicultural nation, and today’s celebration demonstrates that when we share what we have, a celebration can become something much more meaningful.”

Community Outreach & Food Distribution

Beyond the festivities, the event also provided an opportunity for DMCGG to highlight its ongoing charitable work in the wider community, including its Food Distribution Programme, which currently distributes more than 200 meals a day to vulnerable urban families and low-income individuals across the Klang Valley.

For DMCGG, the connection between cultural celebration and community care is rooted in the belief that the values behind traditional festivals can be shared regardless of a person’s cultural or religious background.

“You don't have to belong to a particular culture or faith to understand the meaning of reunion, gratitude and sharing, or to want to help another family. These are universal values and what ties it all together is compassion,” he added.

Youth Volunteerism & Social Impact

Looking toward long-term social impact, DMCGG emphasized the importance of engaging the younger generation in volunteerism and community service from an early age.

“Through this event, we also hope to encourage more young people to experience volunteerism as early as possible. Some of the most important lessons cannot be taught through academics alone. When you volunteer, you learn empathy, responsibility and what it means to contribute to the community,” Foo noted.
