If you’ve been following my page for a while, you know I’m always on the lookout for the next great travel destination. On June 26th, I had the pleasure of attending an event right here in Kuala Lumpur that officially bumped a new destination to the absolute top of my bucket list: Jiangsu, China. Now I can't wait to explore the charm of Jiangsu!
A Beautiful Blend of Cultures
The event kicked off with incredible live music. We were treated to traditional guzheng (plucked string instrument) and dizi (bamboo flute) performances of classic Chinese tunes like "Jasmine Flower" and "Picking Red Water Chestnuts." But the real highlight? They played a creative rendition of our very own "Rasa Sayang." Hearing that familiar Malaysian melody blended with traditional Chinese instruments was a beautiful reminder of the deep cultural ties between our two regions.
In his welcome address, Mr. Paul Chin, Director of the Jiangsu Tourism (Southeast Asia) Promotion Centre, highlighted that the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism places great importance on the Southeast Asian market. He warmly invited tourism industry partners from Malaysia to visit Jiangsu and experience its unique attractions firsthand, while working together to introduce the beauty of "Water Charm Jiangsu" to more local travellers. Judging by the buzz in the room—which was packed with over 40 travel agencies, airlines, and media reps, alongside plenty of online participants—people are ready to pack their bags.
What Exactly is "Water Charm Jiangsu"?
Jiangsu is known as one of China's leading cultural and tourism hubs, famous for its breathtaking natural landscapes, rich history, and iconic water towns. As a premier destination for international visitors seeking an authentic and immersive experience of the Jiangnan region, it truly showcases a unique cultural charm.
To make exploring it easier, they introduced five themed travel routes across 13 distinctive cities.
Whether you are a foodie, a nature lover, or a history buff, there is a route tailored for you:
Sightseeing & Natural Landscapes
Gastronomy (The food alone looks worth the flight!)
Intangible Cultural Heritage
Eco-Wellness
Cultural Retreats
We even got to participate in hands-on intangible cultural heritage activities during the event, giving us a literal taste of the craftsmanship and history that awaits travelers there. Plus, leading Jiangsu travel enterprises joined online to introduce exclusive partnership incentives for local travel agencies.
The Game Changer: Major Inbound-Friendly Upgrades
Let’s be honest—sometimes traveling to a new country can feel a bit daunting when it comes to logistics. Jiangsu clearly understood the assignment because they introduced a massive wave of inbound-friendly services specifically designed to make our trips seamless.
