The TARI'25 Gala Night, the grand finale of the 11th International Folk Dance Festival hosted by ASWARA (The National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage), was a breathtaking spectacle that truly embodied the theme of ASEAN Unity. I was completely spellbound and deeply immersed by the sight of over 600 performers celebrating cultural diversity at Zepp Kuala Lumpur.

This wasn't merely a performance; it was a potent act of cultural diplomacy and was perfect as it gears up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) featuring vibrant folk dances from Malaysia, Indonesia, Timur Leste, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Brunei, Sri Lanka, & the Philippines. Truly magnificent and utterly enthralling.

A major highlight of the evening is a special presentation of “Samrah Mentari”, performed by Malaysia’s legendary vocalist Datuk Jamal Abdillah, accompanied by the Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia (OTM) and Artistana Istana Budaya - a collaboration set to elevate the Gala Night into a powerful union of music, voice, and classical Malay aesthetics.
The Gala Night will also be attended by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Datuk Shahauddim Abu Sohot. His presence underscores the Ministry’s continued support towards cultural preservation, artistic innovation, and Malaysia’s positioning as a cultural destination in ASEAN.
