With 662 rooms, including 101 luxurious suites, the hotel has graciously welcomed dignitaries, heads of state, global business leaders, celebrities, and refined travelers from around the world, while also serving as a meaningful backdrop for countless personal milestones within the local community.
Central to this legacy is our incredible team - employees, whose loyalty, passion, and unwavering dedication have been instrumental in shaping the hotel’s success, building a legacy of excellence that stands the test of time. We extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them for their invaluable contributions.
Over the years, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s unwavering commitment to excellence has earned recognition on the global stage, a testament to the enduring loyalty, trust, and confidence of our valued guests.

FOUR DECADES OF HERITAGE & TRADITION; Till Today!
Embrace The Life of Life Charity Project - Since 1985, the hotel has also demonstrated a deep commitment to giving back through the Embrace “The Gift of Life” Charity Project, launched long before CSR became a widespread practice in Malaysia.
Over the past 40 years, this initiative has raised over RM5 million, providing vital support to hundreds of children suffering from severe heart conditions and other serious medical needs, offering these young lives a second chance to thrive alongside their loved ones.
Celebrating Four Decades of Culinary Excellence at Shang Palace
Since opening on April 20, 1985, Shang Palace has been a culinary landmark in Kuala Lumpur, renowned for serving some of the finest Cantonese cuisine in the city.
Whether for business meetings, family gatherings, or special celebrations, the restaurant’s elegant interiors evoke the grandeur of an imperial court, with intricately carved wooden doors adorned with symbols of power and prosperity such as dragons and phoenixes. These majestic features set the tone for an extraordinary dining experience rooted in tradition, luxury, and authentic Chinese artistry.
The Iconic Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s Kebaya
A distinctive symbol of grace and cultural heritage, the traditional kebaya worn by our Guest Relations Officers (GROs) reflects the rich tapestry of Malaysian culture.
Originally crafted from luxurious white silk in 1985, the kebaya has evolved into an elegant maroon and gold Songket design today, highlighting Malaysia’s textile mastery and cultural diversity. This attire embodies the hotel’s dedication to authentic Malaysian hospitality and continues to be a cherished part of our identity.
Till today, the enduring presence of the kebaya underscores its significance as a proud symbol of Malaysian heritage. Notably, the kebaya was officially recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on December 4, 2024, alongside the intricate hand-woven silk fabric known as Songket, which received this honor in 2021.
