Food Review: Suki-Ya, Tokyo Street, Pavilion KL

Suki-Ya eat all you can sukiyaki and shabu shabu. This “House of Hot Pot” is designed to offer heart-warming dining experiences at equally endearing prices. You can enjoy unlimited, fresh and top-quality beef, lamb and chicken in paper-thin slice. I enjoy their lamb and chicken, as usual u know I don't eat beef. I like the thin sliced lamb in my sukiyaki soup, juicy and yummy.

Suki-Ya “Healthy Bar” is another attraction. It’s the buffet bar featuring a wide varieties of fresh vegetables, few types of mushrooms, toufu, fish balls, fish cakes, sauces, few types of noodles and others. You can choose what you like. The staff refill the Healthy Bar quite fast, so all the food selections are always there.

You can choose 2 out of 3 types of soup offered which is shabu shabu (light, clear broth), sukiyaki (lightly sweet soy sauce broth) and kimchi (spicy and slightly sour broth). I choose shabu shabu and sukiyaki soup broth.

My Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki

I also learn some tips on How to Enjoy Delicious Sukiyaki:-
1) Fill ½ the pot with sukiyaki stock broth & boil it
2) Add leek and onion or other vegetables (I also added pumpkin; yam and yam jelly)
3) Dip sliced meat into sukiyaki stock. Don’t over cook the meat. Once ready, dip meat into beaten raw egg and enjoy.
4) Lastly add udon, rice or noodles of your choice to remaining stock and enjoy the rich flavor of all the ingredients in the hot pot.

There are three types of Shabu Shabu dipping sauce:-
1) Ponzu (shoyu with vinegar) – suitable for vegetables. Add grated raddish & chopped spring onion. If you like spicy like me, you can add chopped chili or cili padi… woo pedas…
2) Gomatare (sesame sauce) – suitable for all ingredients.
3) Misotare (bean paste sauce) – suitable for meat. Good on its own. Add spring onion, garlic or chopped chilies. I like this sauce more than the other two. It has more flavor and makes the chicken meat tastier.

Thin Sliced Lamb

Suki-Ya uses premium pasteurized egg. This raw egg can be used for sukiyaki dipping sauce. Good on its own.
1) Crack and beat the egg in a bowl
2) Cook the fresh sliced meat in soup broth
3) Once it is cook, dip the meat in the freshly beaten egg
4) Then enjoy… the meat eaten this way is smoother and the taste juicier

Dessert is simple. They only have vanilla, chocolate or a mixture of both ice cream. Its do it yourself sundae. You can choose cone or in cup. There are toppings like chocolate sprinkles, raisins, peanuts and cornflakes.

Ice Cream Toppings

I was really full after trying out most of the buffet selections. Well, its value for money for hot pot / steamboat buffet in Pavilion KL the premium shopping mall and with the wide selections of fresh meats, vegetables, fish balls and other items including ice cream for dessert. For your information, this place it is usually full on weekend and public holidays.
