Wall Mounted Electric Radiators Are an Economical Choice

Electric radiator design and style have increased in popularity recently. The contemporary types of electric radiators – whether it's a floor-mounted model or wall-mounted electric radiators – are difficult to ignore.

Electric radiant heating is becoming more common, particularly with advancements in technology and the increasing prices of gas and oil. In this guide, we’re going to give you all the reasons why you should consider electric radiators for your home.

How Do Electric Radiators Work?

Electric radiators work by running an electric current through coils that are metal at one end and plastic at the other. When the current runs through the coil, it becomes red-hot exceptionally quickly, creating heat that evolves into infrared radiation and warms your space fast. These heating elements become so hot they actually glow red if you were to look at them directly!

To get the best result with any type of heating, take a look at our top tips for keeping warm in the winter months.

Advantages of Electric Radiators for Your Home

Electric radiators really can be an excellent choice for heating your home. Here are our top five reasons why you should consider them for keeping your house warm and snug.

Economy

The main advantage of electric radiator heating systems is that they are economical. Compared to the heavy initial cost needed to run a gas boiler, an electrical radiator system offers a cheaper alternative.

Because of the ever-increasing price of electricity, electric heating is becoming a cheaper alternative for homeowners across the UK. Electric radiators can also save money on your energy bills!

Unlike many forms of central heating installation – which usually only heat a room after it has been occupied – an electric radiator will heat up immediately upon being switched on. This means there's no need to wait for your rooms to warm up before you can occupy them. By using electric heaters, you will not only save money on your heating bills but also on having to install an expensive boiler system in your home!

Quick and Easy Installation

Electric radiator systems can be set up anywhere without needing to worry about major installations or rewiring jobs. This, in turn, makes them ideal for smaller areas in your home or minor renovations.

Safety

They are also very safe. With none of the worries that gas can cause, electric radiators need little care and attention and give years of service before replacement is required. There are even reduced requirements for servicing, unlike gas systems that need a qualified engineer to check the boiler every year.

Accessibility of Electricity

Electric radiators are perfect for homes where gas, oil, or solid fuel is not available or convenient. There are meanwhile few homes that don’t have mains electricity available.

Perfect for smaller rooms

These units can be fitted into many smaller spaces, such as bathrooms and kitchens, where they are perfect for warming up individual rooms. Electric heating makes a cost-effective choice compared to other forms of central heating installation, especially when you consider the low running costs involved.

Disadvantages of Electric Radiators for Your Home

Before you make your decision on the heating solution for your home, it’s essential to be balanced and consider what some may view as being the disadvantages of electric radiators.

Less Powerful

The main disadvantage of electric radiator heating systems is that they are less powerful than alternative forms of central heating installation. This is because they have a lower output capacity when compared with other energy sources. This can be seen in the maximum room size when using electric radiators.

For example, when using two smaller wall-mounted or floor-standing electric radiators, it is estimated that they are capable of warming up rooms between 10-20m. However, suppose you are considering installing an electric radiator for larger areas such as living rooms. In that case, you will need to increase the number of units in order to get an appropriate heat output.

Lower Maximum Temperature

Electric radiator heating also has a lower maximum temperature than other forms of central heating installation. With wattages ranging between 350-1000W, electric radiators are only capable of providing heat up to 60°c; which is much lower than oil, gas, and solid fuel boilers (which can provide heat up to 120°C).

However, it must be remembered that electric heating will work instantly when you switch it on, unlike other forms of heating installation, without waiting for your rooms to warm up.

May Not Be Suitable For Larger Homes

Electric radiator systems are also rarely capable of providing adequate warmth in larger houses where more heating is required. This can be solved by installing mini central heating systems, which will provide supplementary heat to your home at a fraction of the cost.
