Rail Canteen, Authentic Taste From Kluang @ Sunway Nexis

Time to explore new makan places, recently we just tried the new Rail Canteen @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara. Well as a true Malaysian, no matter where I go I miss our local food. The thought of nasi lemak, laksa, chendol makes me salivate and hungry. I am glad that we found Rail Canteen café that served authentic taste of local food and coffee from Kluang around our vicinity.

What is your most favourite local food? I have plenty and most of them are the spicy ones. Anyway let’s start with our national food Nasi Lemak! Where is the best Nasi Lemak in Malaysia?

Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah RM12.50

The Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah that we tried at Rail Canteen is awesome. The sambal got the kick means pedas / spicy. Rice is smooth, creamy and fragrant with the crispy fried chicken drumstick coated with lots of Malaysian spices (rempah). If you are there you got to try it.

Rendang Kambing

For your nasi lemak you can opt for Rendang Kambing instead ayam goreng berempah. Or you can order this dish separately. The lamb is tender and the taste is quite heavy and spicy. You can even eat it with rice or bread.

Meehoon Siam RM6.50

The Meehoon Siam portion is quite filling with fried egg strips and boiled egg plus the sambal. It an option for those who don’t feel like easting rice or bread on that day.

5 Types of Sambal - Sambal Sotong, Sambal Kerang, Sambal Bawang,
Sambal Udang and Sambal Ikan Bilis

Olala… we also tried all the 5 Types of Sambal that are available in Rail Canteen. There are Sambal Sotong, Sambal Kerang, Sambal Bawang, Sambal Udang and Sambal Ikan Bilis. The one that I love the most is Sambal Udang because it really aromatic, spicy and appetizing with nasi lemak or meehoon siam.

Mee Rebus RM11.50

Oh yes! I still remember the thick savory gravy of their Mee Rebus. The usual Mee Rebus gravy that we get at other place is bit diluted but the Rail Canteen Mee Rebus the kuah or gravy is thick with aroma comes with generous portion of toufu, cucumbers and eggs.

Mee Kari RM11.50

Are you a fan of Mee Kari? A bowl of satisfying Mee Kari at Rail Canteen with thick coconut, spicy gravy and fish cake plus other ingredients like toufu, eggs and toupok.

Hainanese Chicken Chop RM16.90

For those craving for local style western food, you can try the Hainanese Chicken Chop. The portion is huge with generous portion of fries, baked beans, tomatoes and coleslaw. It’s quite valued for money.

Roti Bakar RM3.50 & Bun Sambal Special RM4.50

The kopitiam style Roti Bakar (toast bread with kaya and butter) with Kopi O and half boiled eggs is kind of Malaysian breakfast or tea. I use to have that since young. The Rail Canteen specialty is the Bun Sambal Special, this is the bun with stuffed sambal and cucumber strips. The bun is fluffy and the sambal is spicy. If you need some kick go for this instead of the usual Roti Bakar.

Kopi Ais RM3.80, Ice Dragon Passion RM6.80 & Ice Honey Passion RM6.80

Here are some of the drinks that we tried the usual Kopi Ais, special ice Dragon Passion and ice Honey Passion. I prefer the ice Dragon Passion which has the dragon fruit bits combined with tangy passion fruits. It’s refreshing and nutritious too.

Kopi Chendol Ais RM4.90 & 3 Layer Ice Cream RM9.80

Aha!!! Must try the Kopi Chendol Ais, it’s the combination of Chendol and Coffee. Although it taste weird but I like it for a change. Those who don’t like your coffee to taste bitter this is your drink.

Rail Canteen @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara

Overall, I find that the local food in Rail Canteen @ Sunway Nexis is slightly different from those around that area. It still maintains its Kluang recipe, style and taste. There are quite fair bit of food selections ranging from rice, noodles, western, buns & breads and drinks at an affordable price. The most important things is the food hygiene, taste and cozy environment.
