Congrats to all the Thai SELECT Award Restaurant winners! The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) Malaysia, under Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce held Thai SELECT Award and Thai SELECT Pavilion at Food & Drinks Malaysia by SIAL 2025 from 1st to 3rd July 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). This initiative underscores Thailand’s commitment to promoting authentic Thai food and expanding its culinary footprint in Malaysia through the internationally recognized Thai SELECT certification.

Thai SELECT Award Ceremony

It was a grand and joyous celebration at Thai SELECT Award Ceremony, the major highlight of the event. The Thai SELECT certification is a hallmark of authenticity and quality, awarded by the Ministry of Commerce of the Royal Thai Government. 

It's more than just a label; it's a guarantee that the Thai food you're experiencing, whether in a restaurant or as a product, adheres to traditional recipes, uses proper ingredients, and is prepared with the same care and techniques as it would be in Thailand.

The ceremony will celebrate 53 Thai restaurants in Malaysia that have achieved the esteemed Thai SELECT certification — an honour recognizing establishments committed to serving authentic Thai cuisine using traditional methods and premium ingredients. 

What Makes a Thai SELECT Award Winner?

The criteria for earning the coveted Thai SELECT certification are rigorous. Restaurants must:

• Have been in operation for at least six months prior to application.
• Feature at least 60% authentic Thai dishes on their menu, prepared using traditional or very similar cooking methods to those in Thailand.
• Employ head chefs who are either Thai or, if non-Thai, can demonstrate at least two years of experience in Thai cooking or possess a relevant training certificate.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and presentation.

Thai SELECT Pavilion features a curated selection of Thai SELECT-certified food products already thriving in the Malaysian market, brought in by trusted local distributors. Featured brands include Maepranom, Mae Supen, Deksomboon, Thai Boy, Squid, Thai Dancer, and Megachef — all renowned for their quality and authenticity. This showcase reflects Thailand’s ongoing strategy to enhance food exports and foster greater appreciation of Thai culinary excellence.

Live Cooking Demonstrations

Experience the soul of Thai cuisine firsthand through live cooking sessions led by chefs from award-winning Thai SELECT restaurants. Taking place over three days, these demonstrations will feature culinary masters from COCA Restaurant, THAI LUCK Thai Cuisine, Malai Thai Cuisine, Napa Authentic Thai Cuisine, Baan Thai Publika, Rama V, and Gai by Darren Chin. Dishes such as Pad Thai, Tom Yum Kung, Yum Som-O Kung, Beef Panang Curry, Ka Prao Beef, Pla Kung Pao, and Khao Soi will be prepared live — offering a multisensory journey into the heart of Thai gastronomy.
