SEACare 2024 Unveils Visionary Rebranding, Igniting Trade & Business Opportunities

The 24th edition of the Southeast Asian Healthcare & Pharma Show (SEACare) will be held from 17th to 19th April at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, in collaboration with MATRADE, the Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS) and supported by government agencies and key industry institutions. SEACare will enhance participants’ experience and raise its profile as a regional hub for sourcing state-of-the-art medical and pharmaceutical products.

According to Malaysia’s leading business event organiser Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd which now manages the annual healthcare and pharmaceutical expo, SEACare is bolstered by strategic partnerships with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS).

The partnerships will introduce new business-focused programmes including business facilities and a knowledge-sharing forum. The MoU between Qube and the MPS was signed at a soft launch ceremony held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

Qube Executive Chairman Richard Teo said: “SEACare will provide a platform to equip Malaysian SMEs with the tools and resources to thrive in the global medical and healthcare industry. Through enhanced trade and business content, SEACare will accelerate export readiness by providing SMEs access to international markets and fostering sustainable growth for Malaysian companies.

“SEACare has long served as a dynamic platform for global manufacturers and producers within the healthcare, wellness, consumer products and pharmaceutical industry to converge and showcase their latest innovation in Malaysia. Building upon this legacy, we aim to broaden its scope to include a diverse spectrum of industry players.”

Teo added that so far, industry players from more than 10 countries will be part of SEACare. “These players recognise SEACare’s potential and view Malaysia as an ideal gateway to the growing market in the region. Through SEACare, our local and global players can also build sustainable strategic alliances, thus propelling their businesses towards international expansion.”

MATRADE’s business matching International Sourcing Programme (INSP) will provide Malaysian participants invaluable connections with global buyers and distributors at SEACare, while qualified SMEs can apply for MATRADE’s Market Development Grant to participate in the expo.

“To cement SEACare's position as a premier platform for fostering international collaborations and driving industry growth, the event will open doors to expanded networking opportunities, market insights, and business prospects. We welcome more Malaysian industry as well as global players to take advantage of this event,” added Teo.

SEACare will be held from 17th to 19th April at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, in collaboration with MATRADE, the Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS) and supported by government agencies and key industry institutions.

The three-day forum will see policymakers and experts from the academia and healthcare industry sharing insights for SMEs to understand the dynamics of the Malaysian healthcare market and develop viable business models to gain a competitive edge.

Topics include innovative business models, retail sourcing, compliance, role of public and private sector, doctors and pharmacists in healthcare collaboration, and licensing and endorsement, while Malaysia’s position as a choice destination for healthcare will also be highlighted.

Speakers include from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, MATRADE, MAHSA University, the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia and Manipal Alumni Association Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Ybhg. Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of MATRADE emphasised the value of the healthcare sector to the economy and its role in providing the populace with essential services.

He added that Malaysia's healthcare sector presents many untapped opportunities for businesses engaged in the supply of healthcare goods and services. Key among these include medical devices, health technology, healthcare partnerships, medical travel, and clinical research.

"Last year (2023), our exports were valued at RM28.1 billion. Medical instruments apparatus and appliances contributed to 30% of our 2023 total exports of medical devices valued at RM8.35 billion while catheters, syringes, needles and sutures contributed to 20%, valued at RM5.66 billion, followed by medical equipment exports worth RM4.11 billion."

SEACare is supported by prominent healthcare bodies including the MAHSA University, Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM), Manipal Alumni mAssociation Malaysia (MAAM), Malaysian Health Technology Assessment Section (MaHTAS) and the Medical Device Authority (MDA) of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
