Battle of the One-Shoulder Dresses: Chic Sew vs David’s Bridal, Which is Best?

Let's admit it: wedding preparation is a stressful process! It's easy to feel overwhelmed when there are so many numerous parts to organise, so many resources to keep track of, and so many people to appease. If you don't know how to approach it, bridesmaid dress hunting might become one of these time-consuming activities. Never worry, we're here to make the process a little easier by comparing two of the most popular online bridesmaid dress stores to see which one comes out on top. Let's look at it in more detail:

Why Are Online Bridesmaid Dress Shops A Great Option?

Purchasing bridesmaid dresses at a real store might be more challenging than you think since all of your bridal party's schedules must coincide in order to set a day for the physical meeting. This can be tough if you all reside in various places and have to travel to be together. Furthermore, due to space constraints, physical stores will be limited in the number of bridesmaid dress designs and shades they can carry at any given moment, meaning you may not be able to find the perfect selection for your bridesmaids. Two of the best online bridesmaid dress and designer dress stores on the market are Chicsew.com and David’s Bridal. David’s Bridal is a well-established brand, while Chic sew is relatively new to the market but is making a great impression. Browsing through dresses on these websites takes a lot of time, so it is a good idea to find out which web page is best so that you know where to start.

To help out, we’ve done the hard work for you, comparing similar dresses from each store to find out which is best. Let’s take a closer look:

The Style of Dress We Are Comparing

When comparing dresses, we wanted to compare similar dresses for a fair comparison. We looked at a number of different bridesmaid dress designs and shades that are set to be popular this year and decided on a one shouldered, satin design in a sofe shade. Especially one-shoulder rose gold satin bridesmaid dresses commonly used in weddings is an elegant design that is a firm favorite with brides to be.

Satin is an increasingly popular choice - especially long burnt orange satin bridesmaid dresses are comfy for your bridesmaids to wear and give your wedding a distinctive style. They look stunning in images from your wedding day and are simple for your bridesmaids to wear during the day and on the dance floor at night. Satin is a less expensive alternative to more expensive materials such as pure silk, yet it does not sacrifice the fabric's appearance. It is also a more durable material that is less likely to crease.

The Dresses and What We Think Of Them

The two dresses that we selected were:

David’s Bridal One Shoulder Satin A-Line Bridesmaid Dress (Code F20135) – Retail Price: $169.95

This dress design is simple, yet classy and comes in a wide range of sizes. Available from size 0 to size 30, and in a choice of 32 colors, the dress does come with many options. We chose the shade wine from the color chart online, and the shade is as deep and vibrant in real life.

The dress was easy to get on, with a simple zipper up the back. There is little stretch to the fabric, meaning that it is supportive but does not have much give when it comes to sizing. The sizing on this David’s bridal dress is pretty standard, with the dress fitting me at my usual size relatively well. It will need a few minor alterations for the perfect fit I would expect on a wedding day.

The design of the dress looks just like it does on the webpage with the thin one shoulder strap and a-line skirt. The cut of the dress pulls in at the waist creating a lovely silhouette while the smooth material skims over the hips. The material has a lovely sheen to it that catches the light when I move.

Overall, the dress is good value for money and made to a good standard. Shipping was free and the dress came within 10 days and was packaged well.

Chic Sew Celestine Simple Satin One Shoulder Side Slit Mermaid Long Bridesmaid Dress (Code Chicsew Celestine) – Retail Price: $139.99

Next up is a similar style dress from Chicsew which shares the one shoulder strap design and deep red color. This shade in the Celestine dress is called burgundy and is a rich, expensive looking shade. The thick satin fabric reflects the light beautifully while the dress is extremely well made with neat stitching and clean lines. One particular highlight of the plus size burgundy satin bridesmaid dresses is the ruching around the waist, which accentuates the waist perfectly by pulling it in without clinging to it.

The mermaid style skirt pulls in at the hips and then glides effortlessly out to the ground, showing off the curves of the body. When it comes to sizing, the dress is available in sizes 0 to 30, but also has a custom sizing option. The custom sizing option allowed us to enter specific measurements for each part of the dress, ensuring a custom, perfect fit which did not disappoint. The dress comes in over 60 different shades offering a larger choice.

The zip up the back of the gown made it easy to put on and off, while the ruching on the dress led to a more sophisticated look. Shipping on this dress was slightly longer – taking around 3 weeks but there is an express shipping offer on the website for a small fee.

When we were on the website, the brand also had a number of promotions running – we could have order three free swatches with the code 3Free, or buy one dress and get another free with the code CSGIFT, making the dresses even more affordable.

The Verdict

Overall, both of these similar dresses were of a good quality and we were impressed with each company’s online website. The chic sew dress edges it for us, coming in at first place due to the option of free custom sizing. On top of this, the chic sew dress retails at a more affordable price point, while not compromising on quality.
