It says ‘This is what we’re made of!’ Alright, for the Spring 2015, Monki
presents a collection focusing on the power of highlighting two key design
features: the silhouette and the material. Head of Design Caroline Carlryd and
her team have created a stylish drop, merging a minimalistic sports look with a
whole lot of the things that make fashion and Monki fashion so enjoyable. On
the point it’s stylish, fun and very wearable at the same time.
Juggling athletic references and the
brand legacy of uniting Scandi cool and energetic street style, the team has
combined experimental materials with classic sports fabrics to form a smart and
stylish whole. Sculptural (even furry) scuba sets and perforated plastic
cover-ups meet the more usual mesh, raw-edged sweat and rib knit cotton garments.
In the silhouette, mini-skirts and crop tops form a contrast to long coats and
oversized layering.
Key garments are the perforated
plastic coat, the scuba jacket and skirt set and fun accessories like silver
scandals, trainers and bags. Monki’s new denim focus is visible in a raw-edged
set combining a denim version of the longline coat with wide culottes.
The colour palette, a range of soft
pastels and shades of grey combined with the crisp white that is key to the
season, plays an important supporting part. The brand’s signature silver serves
as a contrast as does a decisive deep black.
