Hey! If you visit Suria KLCC I am sure you will not miss the magnificient Longest Chinese Horse Painting at the concourse main stage. This painting was created to welcome 2014 Year of Horse and celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY) at Suria KLCC. The painting by renowned horse painting artist James Phua is recognized as the Longest Horse Painting in Malaysia by The Malaysian Book of Records.


The horse painting was created on a canvas measuring 39 feet by 19 feet (12 metres by 6 metres) at the Suria KLCC, exceeding the current world record by Australian artist, Yao Di Xiong who created the largest horse painting in 2002 on 10 feet by 20 feet canvas.

The artist, James Phua completed the painting in less than an hour using freestyle techniques with a specially designed enlarged Chinese painting brush and approximately 60 liters of paint.

It was witnessed by intrigued shoppers as well as 50 underprivileged children from House of Joy and Rumah Charis that were hosted for a memorable Chinese New Year celebration at Suria KLCC.

The underpriviledge children were each given RM150 worth of Ang Pau money to be spent on new clothes of their choice at Isetan departmental store. The ecstatic children were accompanied by Suria KLCC management team who helped them with their shopping.

Suria KLCC then entertained the children with amazing acts by Shaolin Martial Arts Troupe from China who showcased remarkable martial arts skills. The troupe demonstrated acts such as broad sword kung fu, drunken master kung fu and scorpion kung fu among others that amazed the audience with their lithe body and exceptional strength.

The children also enjoyed an eight drums performance and acrobatic lion dance before proceeding to Spring Garden restaurant for a dim sum dinner and the auspicious Yee Sang tossing together with the Suria KLCC management team.

Celebrate the lunar New Year at Suria KLCC from now until 2 February. The iconic shopping centre embraces the year of the horse, with a selection of artistic horse paintings amongst pink cherry blossom trees and beautiful red lanterns throughout the mall and KLCC Esplanade. These paintings are inspired by the characters of the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac such as strength, agility and energy.

You can watch impressive traditional performances such as a variety of lion dance performances that include Cai Qing lion dance, Northern lion dance and High Pole lion dance. Visitors can also catch a unique Hands Percussion performance by the Hands Percussion Team (HANDS), a well known Malaysian percussion ensemble that endeavors to preserve their cultural heritage while introducing contemporary percussion styles with diverse Southeast Asian musical instruments.

Among other performances that are set to entertain Suria KLCC visitors and bring out the lunar New Year festive spirit are the 12-Drums and 24 Festive Drums performance which showcase drum players harmonizing to the beat of the drums while synchronizing in ways that resemble kung fu moves. The specialty about the 24 Festive Drums performance meanwhile is that the drums represent the 24 festivals in the Chinese lunar calendar while the music and choreography depict the cycles of the 24 seasons.

On top of that, there will also be a special Little Spring Blossom Dance by The Kid’s Agency that showcases a graceful dance by children between the age of eight and 13 years old. Another performance that never fails to impress audience is the famous Face Changing performance. The face changing act features a skilled performer changing into different masks to show different emotions within split seconds. Meanwhile, shoppers will also be able to receive Mandarin oranges from the Happy Faces characters who will be walking around the mall on selected days. There will be special Chinese New Year kiosks available with brands such as Cold Storage, Arch, Skin Food, Famous Amos, Top Cookies, Clarisonic, Gucci, Purple Cane offering festive offers until 28 January.
